Every operation on this page runs inside your browser. The PDF libraries are loaded from this site and then do their work locally, which means the file you pick is read from disk into the page and never sent anywhere — no upload, no queue, no copy sitting on a server waiting to be deleted. You can confirm it yourself: load the page, disconnect from the network, and the tools still work.
That design has a practical cost worth knowing. Everything happens in your device's memory, so a very large document or a batch of high-resolution scans can be slow on a phone and may run out of memory where a desktop would cope. If a large job stalls, try it on a computer rather than assuming the file is broken. For anything confidential, this trade is usually the right way round — the work is slower but the document never leaves your hands.
Assuming a PDF is a document you can freely rewrite. A PDF describes finished pages, not editable paragraphs, so text added here is stamped on top rather than flowed into the existing layout — reflowing a paragraph is not something any browser tool can do honestly. Expecting a scan to be searchable is the second: a scanned page is a picture of text, and it stays a picture unless it is put through character recognition. The third is merging without checking page order, which is easiest to get wrong with files named by scanner batch number.
Work on a copy, always. These tools write a new file rather than modifying your original, but keeping the source until you have opened the result and checked it is the habit that saves you. Merge before you compress rather than after, so the compression applies once to the finished document. If a converted file looks wrong, check it in a second viewer before assuming the conversion failed — viewers differ in how they handle embedded fonts, and a page that looks broken in one often renders correctly in another.
All controls are standard buttons, selects and file inputs, so the page can be driven from the keyboard. Progress and results are reported as text rather than by icon alone. Be aware that the PDFs these tools produce are not automatically accessible documents: stamped text is drawn on the page rather than tagged as reading order, and images are not given alternative text. If the output has to be screen reader friendly, it needs tagging in dedicated software afterwards.
