Who this is for

Two or more people who want to watch the same video at the same point while talking about it — friends in different cities, a couple keeping a series in step, a small team reviewing a recording together. One person creates a room, everyone else opens the link, and play, pause and seek stay roughly aligned without anyone counting down from three.

How to use Watch Together

1. Paste a supported video URL and create or join a room.
2. Share the room link with others.
3. Play, pause and seek; the room broadcasts control events.
4. Use the queue for multiple videos; reorder or play next as offered.
5. Toggle personal sync off if you need to catch up alone.

What can be embedded

Only providers that allow embedding work. Login-walled apps (many subscription streamers) cannot be controlled here. Direct files need hosts that allow cross-origin playback. The on-page supported list is authoritative.

How the syncing works, and its limits

A room keeps a shared idea of what is playing and roughly where it is up to. When someone plays, pauses or seeks, that position is passed to everyone else and their player is nudged to match. What is shared is the position and the play state — not the video data itself, which each person streams independently from the source platform.

That is why sync is approximate rather than exact, and why it cannot be otherwise: a viewer on a slow connection is genuinely a second or two behind, and no amount of coordination changes what has actually arrived on their device. It is also why the room works for watching together and reacting together, but is the wrong tool if you need to compare specific frames. Nothing about your account on the source platform is involved — the room only knows the video link and a playback position.

Common mistakes

Expecting frame-perfect sync. Everyone's connection and buffering differ, so the room keeps people close rather than identical — near enough to react together, not near enough to compare frames. Sharing a room link publicly is the second: anyone with it can join and control playback. The third is assuming audio is shared too; the video is synchronised but your voices are not, so keep a call running alongside if you want to talk.

Tips

Let everyone load the page before the first play so nobody starts mid-buffer. If the room drifts, one person seeking deliberately re-anchors everybody — that is usually faster than waiting for it to settle. Use the pop-out window if you want the video on a second screen while keeping the room controls in front of you. Agree who is driving before you start; several people seeking at once is the main cause of a room that will not settle.

Accessibility notes

Room controls are standard buttons reachable by keyboard, and the room state is described in text as well as shown. Captions and playback accessibility come from the embedded video player itself rather than from this page, so whatever the source platform provides is what you get. The room link is plain text and can be copied without using the copy button.

Limitations (honest)

• Sync is best-effort; ads and buffering can desync viewers briefly.
• Room state is stored on the server while active.
• Some hosts are embed-only without full remote control.
• Requires JavaScript in a modern browser.

A room stores the video link and a playback position so everyone can be kept roughly in step. That is all — no video data passes through this site, nothing is recorded, and no account on the source platform is involved. Anyone with the room link can join and control playback, so share it only with the people you want in the room.
