How is WPM calculated?
We use the standard "word = 5 characters" convention. Your words per minute is (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed. Counting characters instead of literal words is how virtually every typing test works, because it's fair across short and long words.
Is this gross or net WPM?
It's gross WPM based on correct characters: only letters you typed correctly count toward speed, and your accuracy is shown separately. Incorrect characters simply don't earn WPM, which naturally penalises sloppy typing without a confusing "negative words" figure.
How is accuracy measured?
Accuracy is correct characters ÷ characters typed × 100. It updates live as you type and is locked in when the test ends.

Why can't I paste the text?
Pasting is blocked so scores reflect real typing. The passage is chosen at random from a small pool each run.
What's a good WPM?
Rough guide: around 40 WPM is average for adults, 55–70 is fast, and 90+ is professional-typist territory. Accuracy matters just as much — a clean 50 WPM beats a messy 70.
Privacy
Is anything I type uploaded or saved?
No. The whole test runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent, logged or stored, and refreshing the page clears everything.
