You have an expected list of Handling Units (a pallet manifest, picking list, shipment, etc.) and a stack of physical HUs to process. Paste the list, scan each HU as you handle it, and the tool tells you in real time which were expected, which are duplicates, which weren't on the list, and which are still outstanding.
What is a Handling Unit (HU)?
In SAP / warehouse logistics, an HU is a physical container — usually a pallet, case, or carton — labelled with a unique barcoded number. The HU number ties the physical thing to its contents in the system. Typical HU numbers are 18–20 digits long.
How do I use it?
Paste your expected HU list into the top box, one per line.
Click Load List. It tells you how many HUs were loaded.
Click into the Scan / Enter HU field and start scanning (or type and press Enter).
Watch the four lists at the bottom fill up as you go. When every HU from your list has been scanned at least once, you'll see ALL HUs SCANNED!.
What the colours mean
The four result categories
Matched The HU was on your list and you just scanned it for the first time. High beep.
Duplicate You already scanned this HU earlier. Mid beep. Useful for catching accidental double-scans.
Not in List You scanned an HU that wasn't on your expected list. Two low beeps. Flag it — it's either an extra item or a wrong one.
Remaining HUs still on your list that you haven't scanned yet. This list shrinks as you work.

Scanned — total scans you've done, including duplicates and not-in-list ones.
In List — how many HUs are on your loaded list.
Matched — unique HUs from the list you've successfully scanned.
Remaining — same as Missing, shown twice for clarity.

Does the tool change my HU numbers?
Yes, lightly — it normalises them so a barcode with extra junk still matches your list. For every HU number (both in your list and in each scan):
Everything that isn't a digit is stripped (dashes, spaces, prefix letters, etc.).
Leading 00 pairs are removed (warehouse labels often pad them).
So 00-1234567890, 001234567890 and 1234567890 are all treated as the same HU.
Note: because non-digits are stripped, this tool is for numeric handling units only. If your HUs or SKUs contain letters (e.g. ABC123), those letters are removed and the codes may not match as you expect.
Does it work with a barcode scanner?
Yes. Most scanners type the digits and then send an Enter keypress, which triggers the check automatically. The input field auto-focuses on page load, so you can plug in and start scanning immediately.
What does the Reset All button do?
It clears your scan history — matched, duplicates, not-in-list counts and lists — but keeps your loaded list. Useful when you finish a batch and want to start a fresh count on the same expected items. To clear the loaded list as well, paste a new list (or an empty one) and click Load List again.
Where is my data stored?
Everything runs in your browser — the server only delivers the page; your list and scans are never uploaded. By default, closing the tab or refreshing wipes the session. If you tick Save progress in this browser, the tool stores the expected list, scan progress (matched, remaining/missing, duplicates, not-in-list), hunt list, and settings like Auto enter and Auto-load on paste in this browser's localStorage so you can resume after a refresh. Uncheck the box to stop saving and clear that stored copy. Data stays on your device only.
What does “Save progress in this browser” do?
It is an opt-in checkbox. When on, HU Checker remembers your current shipment session across reloads: the loaded list, what is still missing/remaining, matches, duplicates, not-in-list, hunt notes, and your auto-enter / auto-load settings. When off (or when you uncheck it), nothing is kept between visits.
Does it work offline?
After the page has loaded, yes — there are no network calls during use. You can disconnect and keep scanning.
The Hunt List
What is the Hunt List?
A watch list of HUs you want to be alerted about while scanning — misplaced pallets, items to pull aside, anything you're "hunting" for. It sits alongside your main list: when a scan matches a hunted HU you get a distinct two-tone "ta-da" beep and a 🔎 HUNT MATCH banner, whatever else the scan was (match, duplicate, or not in list). The Hunt List survives loading a new list and Reset All, so you can keep hunting across shipments.
How do I add HUs to it?
Manually: open 🔎 Hunt List (optional), paste one HU per line, click Add to Hunt List.
From leftovers: when you load a new list while unscanned HUs remain, a prompt offers to move those unscanned HUs onto your Hunt List.
From the Remaining list: click the 🔎 button on any Remaining item to move it to the Hunt List, with a popup text box for an optional note.
Can I attach a note to a hunted HU?
Yes, two ways:
When pasting, put the note after a comma: 4501234567, damaged box. Everything after the first comma is the note (so notes can contain commas).
Click the 📝 button on any Hunt List item to add or edit its note later. The button shows a blue outline when a note exists.
The note is shown next to the HU in the Hunt List (and drops to its own line under the HU once it's been found). When you scan an HU that has a note, a popup box shows it — press OK to dismiss and keep scanning. Notes also appear in a Note column of the exported PDF/Word report.
Can I send a Remaining HU straight to the Hunt List?
Yes. Every item in the 📋 Remaining list has two buttons: 🔎 opens a popup with a text box — type an optional note and press OK to move that HU off your loaded list and onto the Hunt List. × removes the HU from your loaded list entirely (counts update to match).
How do I remove things from the Hunt List?
Click the × on a single item (its note goes with it), or Clear Hunt List to wipe the whole thing.
