Text to Speech — FAQ

Turn text into natural spoken audio.

The basics

How do I use it?
Type or paste your text, choose a voice, and press Play. You can pause and resume, and stop at any time. It's great for proofreading by ear, learning pronunciation, or listening to an article instead of reading it.
What voices are available?
There are eight voices — four male and four female. The exact set of voices depends on your browser and operating system, since the tool uses the voices installed on your device.
Can I change how it sounds?
Yes. Adjust Speed (how fast it talks), Pitch (higher or lower tone), and Volume to get a delivery you like.

Longer text & browsers

Can it read long passages?
Yes — it's built to handle long text and will read straight through a full article or document without you needing to break it up.
It's silent or has few voices — why?
Text-to-speech relies on your browser and system. Voice choice and quality vary between devices, and a browser tab must be allowed to play audio. If you hear nothing or see very few voices, try Chrome or Edge, check your volume, and make sure the page isn't muted.

Privacy

Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The speech is produced by your browser on your own device. Your text isn't uploaded or stored by this site, and it clears when you refresh.
