Speech to Text โ€” FAQ

Dictate and get a live transcript.

The basics

How do I use it?
Choose your language, click Start, and allow microphone access when your browser asks. Speak naturally and your words appear in the transcript as you talk. Click Stop when you're done.
Which languages are supported?
You can dictate in 22 languages. Pick the one that matches how you'll speak before you start โ€” recognition accuracy depends on choosing the right language.
Which browsers work best?
The tool uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. It works most reliably in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge on desktop and Android. Some browsers (including Firefox and some iOS setups) have limited or no support, so if nothing appears, try Chrome or Edge.

The transcript

Can I save what I dictated?
Yes. When you're finished you can copy the transcript to your clipboard or download it as a .txt file to keep or edit elsewhere.
How do I get better accuracy?

Privacy

Is my voice recorded or uploaded by this site?
This site does not record or store your audio or transcript โ€” the transcript lives only in your browser until you copy or download it. Note that browser speech recognition itself may send audio to the browser maker's service to turn it into text; that processing is handled by your browser and its provider, not by ToolsAre.Us.
